Blvck Hippie releases new animated video for Technicolor

“The hand-drawn video cuts between Shaw on a heartbroken walk through the gray and lifeless streets of the city, contrasted with bursts of color as he loses himself in the haze of a romantic memory.” - Under The Radar

The second single from Blvck Hippie’s first LP, If You Feel Alone At Parties, now has an appropriately heart-wrenching music video. The Technicolor Music Video, animated by Natalie Hawkins, demonstrates how Shaw views Blvck Hippie’s visual media as an extension of their songs. The music video combines “Technicolor” and its orchestral outro into one seamless play. These separate tracks melded into a singular narrative give us a fresh way of experiencing the whole of “Technicolor”. The video begins as if through an old VHS tape left on in the background. Soft, crackling sound and color greet us as a reminder of what could have been. Shaw’s aching melody brings the track into focus by catching us in the current of their personal mental spiral played out on screen through the animation. The hand-drawn style pairs with the vulnerability of the lyrics to create an emotionally raw and all-consuming way of experiencing Blvck Hippie.
